First, just a Whisper…
Deadly Red
Deadly Red is a co-production that emerged from the cooperation with Dutch pianist Jeroen van Vliet
In Muses’ Whispering, I take you into an audio-visual nature experience, where pure wonder takes the stage. The Whispers – visual tales set to melody – are created by transforming artistic nature photographs around a single theme into a narrative, and finding matching music. Through a subtle tuning of the image flow to the music’s movement, a harmonious unity emerges, one that, for me, touches the very beauty of Mother Nature. Thus, my work becomes an ardent plea to hold Mother Earth gently in our hands.

In my photography, three distinct lenses guide my vision. The telephoto (Sony FE 100-400) has captured, among other scenes, the regal wingbeats of mute swans (Swans’ Delight); Canadian geese rising from the clay pits with an early morning splash (Misty Morning Flight); and the fluid dance of tree reflections upon still ponds (Call of the Earth).
In addition, I use two macro lenses. The Tamron 180mm Macro revealed floating goose feathers bathed in soft morning light (Feathers’ Wonderland); dew-laden spiderwebs (World Wide Web); and a frozen fen catching the first winter rays (Galaxy on Ice). My Laowa 2.5-5X Ultra Macro allows an extreme delve into detail, focusing on frost crystals shimmering in the sun (Light beyond Tears); nascent sundew just above the water’s mirror (Emerging); and the spore capsules of tiny Ceratodon purpureus moss, cloaked in rime (Winterscape).
My preference is to work with an intensely shallow depth of field. This technique ensures that the Whispers span a rich palette, from the purely figurative to the profoundly abstract.

Crystalline Landscapes
For Crystalline Landscapes, the soundscape was drawn from the work of composer Karen Tanaka, as performed by pianist Signe Bakke. I reached out and connected with both artists regarding this creation. Karen shared with me the following words:“I have truly enjoyed seeing your beautiful work!! I feel very honored that you included Crystalline II for your audio-visual work. Signe’s performance is wonderful, and it fits your images so well. I am amazed by the beautiful details of your photography – light, shadow, and super high definition of snow crystals!!”

The choice of music is diverse: from classical composers such as Chopin, Bach, and Vivaldi, to modern composers and musicians like Karen Tanaka, Lavinia Meijer, and Jan Garbarek. Finding music that enhances a visual story is a unending challenge. Sometimes, a piece of music lies in wait for years for its fitting images, as with Crystalline Landscapes; the reverse also occurs: a completed photo project still awaiting its resonant melody. In that light, my collaboration with pianist Jeroen van Vliet was a magnificent adventure; the music and images empower each other because Jeroen consistently sought an emotion and movement that complemented my artistic, often abstract, photography.
